The aim of art is to represent not the
outward appearance of things,
but their inward significance.

MUSIC - THEATRE MUSIC&THEATRE
MUSIC is one of my lifelong passions. My primary instruments are piano, harp and guitar, and I am proficient with autoharp, flute and different types of dulcimers. I can also play upright bass in a pinch. I have an alto/mezzo singing voice and sing regularly with my church 's worship band and have been known to sing a karaoke tune or two. I am fortunate to know many talented singers, musicians and composers in the Richmond area and beyond. Please contact me if you need music for any occasion. If I can't help you, chances are I'll know someone who can!
Over the last several years, I have discovered an additional passion: THEATRE! I performed and played multiple instruments in the Sanders Family trilogy of productions at Barksdale Theatre - Hanover Tavern (Denise - 2007, 2008/09 and 2010) and played harp in the pit orchestra in Swift Creek Mill Theatre's production of A Grand Night for Singing (2010) . I played one of seven pioneer women in the Mill's production of Quilters (Spring 2011 - RTCC nominee for Best Ensemble) and played the role of country music legend Maybelle Carter in the Mill's production of Keep on the Sunny Side , based on the Carter Family. Most recently, I was part of an 8-member ensemble cast in the world premiere of Blue Ridge Mountain Christmas this past holiday season at Hanover Tavern.
Hope to see you at a show!

BIO BIO
I've been an artist since my childhood in rural Minnesota. In high school, I tried drawing portraits in pencil for the first time and fell in love with the challenge of capturing an individual's presence with graphite on paper. I went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Augustana College and took Graphic Design courses at Art Institute International - Minnesota. Over the last several years, I have expanded my pursuits to include charcoal drawing, photography and stained glass.
Nonprofit fundraising is my 9-5 job. I am the Assistant Director of Development at Barksdale Theatre and Theatre IV in Richmond and have been there seven years. I've worked in non-profits since 2000 and that career path has allowed me to freely pursue art in my spare time.
I have many joys, including my husband, Robbie; my cats Franklin, Janis & GrisGris; being outdoors -- camping, hiking, or just observing; listening to a variety of music and making my own; reading fiction and memoirs; cooking and eating delicious food; watching good and bad cinema; singing karaoke; writing; acting; and traveling.
I am grateful to God, the first Artist, for giving me artistic ability, and to my family and friends for supporting and encouraging my creativity. Please contact me if you have questions about pricing or would like to talk about commissioning a piece.
